CHAPTER

ABOUT wayOUT SEATTLE

Established in 2020 as the word shut down in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Seattle chapter has defied the odds, raising sizable grants for two outstanding organizations.  Since its inception, the chapter has doubled in size and has rallied local and national businesses to support the wayOUT and LGBTQ+ youth.

LGBTQ IN SEATTLE

With a history of championing LGBTQ+ rights as early as 1973 and permitting LGBTQ+ bars and night clubs since the 1930's, Seattle is a pinnacle of LGBTQ+ culture. Today, Seattle has the highest rate of LGBTQ+ couples & families in the United States, taking over San Francisco with 2.6% of households back in 2013.

To refuse to listen to someone's cries for justice until the request comes in a language you feel comfortable with is a way of asserting your dominance over them in a situation.

The Seattle Chapter was inspired by Our Spot KC's mission to provide safe, affirming spaces and shelter to LGBTQ+ youth in Kansas City.  The staff knows their community well and is able to make a little go a long way in providing live-saving resources to our queer siblings in Kansas.
